Busy weekend ahead
Our first visitor arrived on campus yesterday afternoon at 4:26 pm and by that same time on Monday afternoon, over 210 prospective students and their parents will have visited our campus. I need to pause to let that number sink in. For a college of 870 students, hosting that many students takes an awful lot of work on behalf of the Admissions Staff, our faculty, our coaches, and our students.
What brings so many to campus this weekend?
Our African-American/Hispanic-Latino weekend begins on Saturday afternoon and concludes on Monday. Each student participating in this comprehensive visit program essentially gets to spend two-and-a-half days walking in the shoes of a Wabash student. In addition to spending a few nights on campus, students will attend classes, meet with faculty and alumni, and get a taste of the social life at Wabash. Members of two student organizations (Malcolm X Institute and Unidos por Sangre) play a large role in this program including hosting students in their living units and organizing social activities throughout the weekend.
Monday brings our Top Twenty Visit Day and over 130 students have registered for this event. Highlights for the Top Twenty program include a campus tour, sessions on The Gentleman's Rule, the liberal arts, and meeting with members of the Schroeder Career Services Office.
Juggling two visit programs on the same day takes a lot of coordination, but we're up to the task. This weekend will be a nice dress rehearsal for Honor Scholarship Weekend, where we expect to have over 350 students in attendance.
When the dust settles on Monday, I'll share some highlights of the weekend. I believe I speak for everyone when I say that while this will be a busy weekend, we're all looking forward to it.
