National Volunteer Week
Chip Timmons - I was listening to the radio while I ran a few errands at lunchtime and heard that President Bush was making stops around New Orleans to help celebrate National Volunteer Week.
Volunteers play a major role in the life of Wabash College as well. In Admissions, volunteers refer students, attend college fairs, counsel students and parents and support our efforts in countless ways. A lot of the success we have had in Admissions in the past 7 years is directly attributed to the efforts of our volunteers. The same could be said of volunteers who assist in fundraising and alumni events.
Wabash students step up to volunteer in numerous ways. Freshman orientation includes community service projects that involve freshman, upperclassmen, faculty, and staff which instill with a desire to serve others while they're here for four years and beyond. Tom Runge '71 just shared the news of Charlie Crowley '70 getting recognized for his volunteer efforts in the Twin Cities.
After some introspection, I decided I need to do my part this week. I plan to man the grill at a cancer benefit/cookout this Saturday and hopefully "inspire by example", just as men like Charlie and our other volunteers have inspired me.
