A Night at the Ballpark
Chip Timmons - I'm in Minneapolis for a few days to attend a marketing workshop. I had some time to kill this evening, so I decided to go to tonight's Twins/Red Sox game.
I shared my plans with baseball purist, Steve Klein, who turns up his nose at the idea of watching a baseball game indoors, but I saw no harm in it. Plus, tonight was $1 hot dog night. How could I pass up $1 hot dogs at the ballpark?! I didn't put up numbers to earn a trip to Nathan's hot dog eating contest on Coney Island, but did eat my fair share. Lucky for me, I had at 20-minute walk home from the Metrodome to work off some of those calories.
The game started slowly (the first inning took 32 minutes), but wound up being very entertaining. The Twins hit two home runs including a grand slam that put the game out of reach after seven innings. The Twins prevailed 8-1 and I'm certain that didn't sit well with Nick Collins who's a big Red Sox fan. How big a fan is Nick? He went to Fenway Park for his honeymoon.
I sported my Wabash gear hoping to serve as a billboard for Wabash, but didn't get any takers. The folks sitting next to me hailed from Brookings, South Dakota, but their son just finished the 6th grade. I gave him my card and reminded him it's never to early to start your college search.
In the morning, I'm off to the Minneapolis campus of St. Thomas University to learn more about integrating the web and print publications into our marketing efforts. Perhaps I'll provide some examples of how to use a blog for that very purpose.
