Mithcum Crock 2006

Chip Timmons - After a soggy start, Friday turned out to be a great day for golf. The Indianapolis Association of Wabash Men hosted the Mitchum Crock golf tournament on Friday at The Trophy Club in Lebanon, IN and over 100 golfers took part in the event.

My teammates this year were Squier Neal '66, Chris Colson '86, and Davey Neal '01. Our 4-under total of 68 didn't put us in contention for the title this year, but we had a lot of fun. For me, the best part of events like "the crock" is getting to spend some time with alumni I don't get to see during my travels or meeting alumni who I've yet to meet.

Squier and Davey are regulars at these events and I got to know Davey during his summer internship in our office while he was a student.  Chris (on the right in the photo) and I had never meet prior to Friday and he's followed an interesting path after graduating from Wabash twenty years ago.

Chris worked in the Admissions Office for a few years after graduation.  He then decided to attend graduate school with the hopes of earning a Master's in architecture.  After working with a few firms in Indianapolis, Chris eventually started his own business and is currently the owner of The Creighton Studios, LLC.  Here's another example of what one can do with a degree from Wabash.  In our literature, we like to say that "you can go anywhere from here" and Chris is living proof.

Friday's event was also the first "crock" for President Pat White and he addressed the group at dinner.  Pat thanked all of the alumni for their support and shared a few thoughts about his first few weeks on the job.  President White clearly understands the important role Wabash alumni play in the life of the College.  He reminded those in attendance that referring talented young men to Wabash is the best way to support Wabash College in our mission to educate young men to think critically, act responsibly, lead effectively, and live humanely. As the member of our staff charged with leading our alumni volunteer efforts, I couldn't agree more.
