Old Warson and OB Clark
Rudy Cope - And now… (drumroll please..), Rudy’s second blog! Exciting stuff. I’m really making the rounds now from Sin(t)-s&-'na-tuh to Saint Louis! Saint Louis has long been one of my favorite American cities. From Arch Madness to Mike Shannon’s to Union Station and Busch Stadium – there’s something in Saint Louis for everyone.
This week – for me – was the opportunity to attend the Saint Louis monthly Wabash alumni luncheon and a reception for prospective students at Old Warson Country Club. The alumni luncheon, held at OB Clark’s in the Brentwood area, was a real treat, attended by Michael Kelley ’70, Jim Thomas, ’73, Pete Schiavone ’81, Jim Riddle ’86 and Tom Hays ’55.
Conversation was rich – as I’ve come to expect in my time with Wabash alumni. From the Cardinals recent blowout to the importance of liberal arts education to our friend Charlie Raiser ’69, there aren’t many topics we didn’t cover. In case you ever get to OB Clark’s, the beer-battered cod has my hearty endorsement.
Tom ’55 and Sue Hays were kind enough to host our prospective student reception at the Old Warson Country Club Sunday afternoon. Old Warson, located in Ladue, is a beautiful golf course and country club founded in 1954. The golf course has been named among America’s 100 greatest golf courses and hosted the 1971 Ryder Cup. (Leave it to me to digress into golf talk).
For our part, the clubhouse was beautiful and a great venue for our reception Sunday afternoon. We were joined by college guests Steve Klein, Dean of Admissions, Rick Warner, Assistant Professor of History and Josh Owens ’07. Joining us, also, were Tom and Sue Hays, Jonathan Reidy ’06, Michael Kelley ’70, Brian and Tori Michaels (parents of Justin Michaels ’10).
We had some great conversations about Wabash and the liberal arts – information which I hope was helpful to our prospective students and families.
