Indianapolis Guidance Counselor Breakfast
Chip Timmons - Every fall, we host a breakfast for guidance counselors in the Greater Indianapolis area. The goal of this event is to reconnect with our colleagues on the high-school side of the college search process and provide some updates on what's new at Wabash. A few current students and a faculty member join us as well.
Walter Blake hosted the event this year and Charlie Blaich from the Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts, Clint Gasaway, Director of Financial Aid, Carlos Guevara '07, and Jay Horrey '09 crawled out of bed early this morning to assist Walter. Thirteen counselors representing 10 high schools attended and our presenters did a magnificent job.
Charlie led off by highlighting three elements of the Wabash undergraduate experience that distinguish it from other institutions. Always a tough act to follow, Charlie handed the floor over to Clint and myself to provide updates on the application process, financial aid, and other items. Once we finished our remarks, our students took the floor and as is always the case, they stole the show.
Both Jay and Carlos were asked to address the group and share why choosing Wabash was a good a decision for them. The pride these men have in Wabash and the work they do when they're here is amazing. Not to mention the fact that they addressed this group at 7:30 AM requiring them to get out of bed, shower, and shave by 6:00 AM. That's a feat for most working adults let alone college students accustomed to staying up well past midnight.
