Crawfordsville is the Center of the Universe
Chip Timmons - Some may argue with me on this point, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone on campus to disagree with me. This weekend, Wabash will host the 114th Honor Scholarship Weekend, a scholarship competition which will bring over 300 students to campus to compete for over $3 million in merit scholarships.
How does a College of 870 students accommodate 300 guests all at once? That's where the "center of the universe" stuff comes into play.
Every member of the Wabash community gets involved from Campus Services who starts setting up on Thursday night, to the student hosts, to the parents of currents students who greet our guests at registration, to faculty grading the exams, to alumni joining us at Friday's banquet, to coaches visiting with students Saturday night, to everyone who will remind prospective students that they're a part of something special this weekend.
Crawfordsville was already the center of the universe this weekend for a couple of hours on Sunday for Colts fans. The Lombardi Trophy Tour stopped at the Holiday Inn this Sunday afternoon. I've said this before, but you do find Wabash alumni everywhere. My teammate Jeff Nicoson '97 was in front of me in the line to get his photo taken with the NFL's ultimate prize. So that makes three Wabash alumni who've had their hands on this trophy Pete Metzelaars '82, Jeff, and myself. I'm certain there are others, but that's all that I can confirm.
Some of the literature I read said the trophy is valued at $25,000, but to this Colts' fan, it's priceless.
