Hovey Society Induction
Betsy Knott - Live humanely.
They’re the last two words of the College’s mission statement, but they’re taken very seriously. Give back. Provide for others. Serve the community.
Today, the Admissions Office inducted 12 new members and one honorary member to the Edmund O. Hovey Society, a student volunteer group that serves as ambassadors for the College in a variety of ways. Edmund O. Hovey, one of the founders of the College, was also one of the first recruiters.
To get inducted into the group, the students had to attend a couple of training sessions and work at least two of our major visit programs. Responsibilities include anything from hosting a student to working registration or proctoring an exam at Honor Scholarship weekend with a professor and eating a meal with parents and students. Their duties may seem insignificant at the time but make a huge difference to the members of the Admissions staff.
We have a great group of guys with this year’s class of inductees. They’re exactly what anyone would want out of a volunteer: dependable, responsible, charismatic, and happy to help. They’re active in and outside of the Wabash community and they represent Wabash well; we have musicians, varsity athletes, our first international student, Glee Club members, fraternity members, Republicans, Democrats, independents, Student Senate members, rugby players, and all around active participants.
Congratulations to Jeff Austen ’09, Duncan Dam ’09, Brent Graham ’09, Trent Hagerty ’09, Jay Horrey ’09, Jim Leuck ’09, Kyle Luth ’08, John Moton ’09, JP Patterson ’08, Calvin Pohl ’09, Mark Turpin ’09, and Juan Carlos Venis ’09.
In addition to these students, Pam Rager, a support staff member in the Admissions Office, was named an honorary member. Pam is often in the office after hours and on the weekends giving her all to make our lives easier.
Welcome to the Hovey Society!
