Boy's State? Boys' State? It's Boys State

Chip Timmons - It's Boys State.  I see it misspelled more often than I see it spelled correctly and a former delegate, I wanted to make that clear.

Boys State program are underway across the country this week and our office is doing everything we can to introduce Wabash to these young men.

For those unfamiliar with Boys State, it's a week-long learning experience in the operation of our Democratic form of government, the organization of a political party, and the practical application of the knowledge gained from both (taken from the Hoosier Boys State website). The Boys State programs are sponsored by the American Legion.

Delegates are selected by their local American Legion posts based upon several criteria, but scholarship, leadership, and service common traits in all delegates. The profile of a Boys State delegate is very similar to the profile of an ideal candidate for Wabash.  Roughly 10% of an entering class at Wabash were Boys State delegates. For that reason, we've made a concerted efforts to reach out to Boys State programs outside of Indiana.

Wabash College was represented at college fairs at Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, and Oklahoma, and Wisconsin Boys State events.  Rudy Cope is serving at a counselor at Hoosier Boys State and Sam Prellwitz '10 is doing the same at Badger Boys State.  Thanks to Jim Olberding H'99, Don and Laura Musil (parents of Dane '05), and Mike Dill '71 for covering the Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma fairs respectively.

I covered the Buckeye Boys State fair yesterday and met several promising candidates. However, I left my camera in the office, so I'll have to rely on Rudy to bring back some photos.
