Getting to Know Mike Owens '02
Mike Owens - Greetings, Wabash! It’s been just over five years since I became a proud alum having majored in Rhetoric with a Spanish and Art minor. I’ve returned occasionally for football games, still maintain close friendships with Wabash brothers, and am now excited to be back as a professional. Wabash provided me with countless valuable experiences, including spending a semester in Granada, Spain and traveling to such places as Portugal, France, and Italy.
The three years prior to arriving to Admissions found me working as a Student Life Counselor at The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities. Beyond the primary responsibility of ensuring student safety and well being, I also implemented daily activities, served as the liaison to the parent organization, helped coordinate club fairs and Post-Prom, and was a Peer Assistant Advisor. I will miss many things, such as playing intramural basketball with the students and working with a great Academy staff towards a common goal.
I’m happy to know that I will be challenged and have similar experiences at an institution about which I’m even more passionate. I look forward to guiding young men by educating them about what Wabash has to offer. Furthermore, I’m happy to have the chance to do so as part of a wonderful community.
Aside from work I enjoy watching and attending sporting events, playing basketball, jogging, and spending time with family; especially on our annual trip to Mackinac Island.
