Be Our Guests and Put Our Service to the Test

Chip Timmons - Honor Scholarship Weekend is less than three days away and we're working feverishly to get ready for our guests.  We're printing agendas, preparing folders and nametags, reserving rooms, sharpening pencils for exams (yes, we even do that), but in my opinion, the two toughest assignments are coordinating housing and transportation.

You may have read that the College enrolled the most students (917) in its history this fall.  With a record enrollment, you would expect to deal with a few housing issues.  This weekend, we'll 350 students to the mix, so finding hosts for our guests presents a few more challenges.

This week, Marc Welch's work closely resembles that of a hotel manager. Marc's is working with our fraternity leadership, the resident advisors, the Dean of Students office, and Bon
Appétit to arrange for housing and meals for all Honor Scholarship attendees. This job might appear a bit overwhelming, but when working as a team with others on campus, it's a well-oiled machine.

Before Marc and his team can take care of business, we need to get those students to campus.  While the majority of students will drive to campus, close to fifty students will fly into Indianapolis to take part in the weekend.  The first students are scheduled to arrive tomorrow and the final departures are scheduled for Tuesday.

Mike Owens and Damon Howell are coordinating all of our transportation issues.  Over the last two weeks, Mike and Damon have collected flight itineraries from our guests, scheduled airport runs and drivers for those runs, and will spend most of Thursday closely monitoring flight schedules to handle any delays, cancellations, etc.  Mike will be stationed at "Mission Control" (aka Trippet Hall) while Damon will be on the ground at Indianapolis International.
