1,000 already?
A feature ran on the Wabash web site last week sharing the news that Admissions is on a record pace for applications and visits for this recruitment cycle. Lots of planning, hard work, and long hours have been put in by our staff, students, and alumni volunteers, but we can't take much too much time to pat ourselves on the back. There's a long way to go before we reach the finish line.
On the heels of this article, we reached another milestone that some of you will appreciate. On Friday, we received our 1,000th application for the class of 2013. We hit 1,000 well before the December 15th deadline and after today's haul from the mail and web, we're already knocking on the door of 1,100. Why is this milestone significant?
The first year I worked in this office ('97-'98), we had a goal of 1,000 applications and 270 new students. The totals from that year were 740 some odd applications and 223 new students. Woefully short of expectations, to say the least, but you know what they say around here. W.A.F.
For a few more years, we chased the elusive 1,000 and thanks to alumni volunteers, coordinated efforts with the faculty and coaches, improved marketing efforts, we finally reached that goal in 2001.
We're at a point now where hitting 1,000 doesn't send us dancing in the streets, but for the veterans, we always take time to reflect on how far we've come when number 1,000 arrives each year...especially when it arrives earlier than ever before.

Congratulations to the entire Admissions staff on this important milestone — 1,000 applications for admission to Wabash! Many folks don't realize how much work that takes on the part of every member of the Admissions team — from the road warriors to the folks who set up the on-campus visits to the people who crunch the numbers and manage the data. It's a team effort, for sure. Congratulations! Jim.
