Tell YOUR Summer Story - in the Wabash Magazine
.jpg)
As many of you already know, I spent part of my summer in Colorado. In this picture all of my grandchildren are running around in the coolest "sprinkler" I have ever seen in Colorado Springs.
Steve Charles, Magazine Editor without living equal, wants to know your summer story. For more information, click here.
I can't believe I am saying this, but don't be shy. If you have an interesting summer story (conquered Mount Everest, flew with the Thunderbirds, solved the oil shortage, created world peace, or something like those) get the story to Steve.

Ladoga, Indiana

Ladoga, Indiana turned out to be much larger than I thought. I know I missed a lot in my short stop over the lunch hour. Lots of photo opportunities here - I will definitely go back.
I can see how David Blix '70 has such fond memories - every one I passed waived to me and everyone I spoke with showed that great Hoosier hospitality.
Photos here.

The Chapel - Beautiful Always

A little fog out there this morning. Hard rain yesterday and Indiana humidity today - go figure. But the Chapel is always beautiful and draws alumni from all over back to its sanctuary.
Last Saturday, Ryan Reel '99, whom I met this past year in beautiful Colorado, proposed to his longtime girlfriend Rebecca in the Chapel. One of our current students, Gary James '10, had given them a tour of the new buildings on campus and Gary "magically" ended the tour at the Chapel. Ryan proposed...and Rebecca said ...YES!
That Chapel must be special. A young man, living in a place like Colorado, decides the BEST place to pop the question is in the Pioneer Chapel at Wabash College - 1,100 miles away.
Special indeed.

Wabash Crowd Cheers on Indians

A crowd of Wabash alumni, parents, and friends were on hand last Friday evening to cheer on the Indians as they battled the Toledo Mud Hens. The evening was Wabash College Night at Victory Field and the outing was sponsored by the Indianapolis Association of Wabash Men.
A good time was had by all...except the Indians, who lost 0-3 to Toledo.

Wingate Indiana - porches and more

Sunday morning took me to Wingate bright and early (yes, I went to Mass on Saturday night!). I wanted to see some of those porches, and the town, that Bob Quirk '50 spoke of in the latest Magazine.
As it turned out, there was a Little League game going shortly after 8:00 AM - Crawfordsville versus Eagle Creek - I couldn't believe it.
Photos here.

Wallace, Indiana

There's a great piece in the latest Wabash Magazine on the 341 Cafe in Wallace, Indiana. After reading the piece, I wondered what the place looked like, on the outside, and I was interested in this little town. So, over lunch today, I drove down there and took a couple of quick photos. Click here for the photos.
The pie special today, in case you were wondering, was Butterfinger Cheese Cake. Try to say that without your cholesterol jumping 20 points!

Dennis Dean '73 Appointed to Key Research Post
Mark McNamee, Virginia Tech senior vice president and provost, announced that Dennis Dean '73, the Stroobants Professor of Biotechnology at Virginia Tech, will be associate director of the new the Virginia Tech Carilion Medical Research Institute. “Dr. Dean will assure that the investments Virginia Tech is making in basic life science areas are leveraged as fully as possible during the medical research institute's establishment,” McNamee said.
The medical research institute, managed by Virginia Tech, is a collaboration with the Carilion Clinic and the newly established Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTC), a private independent school jointly managed by Virginia Tech and Carilion, all co-located on a new campus under construction in Roanoke.
Dean is also an internationally known researcher. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wabash College and a Ph.D. from Purdue University, and he was a National Institute of Health postdoctoral fellow in the Institute for Enzyme Research at the University of Wisconsin.
Congrats Dennis!
