Excited to Get the School Year Started

Hello! My name is André A. Adeyemi from Providence, Rhode Island and am ecstatic about being a freshman at Wabash College. I was born and raised in Rhode Island and can not wait to experience some Midwestern livin’. I went to my high school, Times Squared Academy, since the sixth grade and really can’t wait to make new friends and have new experiences. I have one older sister who will be a junior at Clark University, and my loving parents who are sad to see me go so far away for college, at least I think.

During my high school career I was very involved in my school and community. Whether it was my work as Co-Chairman of the board of directors of Youth In Action, a teen organization in Providence, to being the Student Advisor of my School Improvement Team, I am really excited about bringing the leadership skill I have learned to the Wabash community. With that said, I am really excited about all the opportunities I will have to join clubs and organizations that spark my interest like fraternity life, The Malcolm X Institute, Student Senate, The Pre-Law Society, and WNDY. In addition, I always ran track (particularly sprint events) and find the idea of running at the collegiate level very
exciting.

This summer has been very interesting for me so far. The day after my graduation I took a much anticipated holiday to Nigeria, my father’s homeland. I enjoyed a month of family, food, and sightseeing, after which I came back to the U.S. to begin an internship at the US Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Middletown, RI.  The organization  builds underwater robots. As my summer comes to an end and I begin to prepare for college I can’t help but think about how I’ve made the right decision in where I’m going to college for a multitude of reasons, like having a school that has a stellar reputation, a unique liberal arts curriculum, and great financial aid. I find myself in amazement when thinking about how quickly I got to know Wabash.
