My findings as I explore more of Wabash
AIR RAID! AIR RAID! Boom, Boom, Boom, is the sound I hear almost every morning while crossing the Mall heading to and from class. I found out from hearsay why Wabash men dressed in grey sweats go around campus and perform acrobatic stunts while saying air raid. The truth is they are trying to become members of the Sphinx Club. Knowing very little about this exclusive club I asked one of the many friendly Beta brothers, Chad Sorenson, (who is a member of the Sphinx Club): What exactly is this club all about? He noted that the Sphinx Club unites the campus in more ways then one whether it involves hosting a TGIF party or facilitating the upcoming Chapel Sing. Sphinx club members also hold the many traditions of the college like Chapel Talk and are well represented with members in nine out of the ten fraternity houses and one independent. Chad also told me about the process of becoming a Sphinx Club member otherwise known as Rhyneship. For those who do not know, Rhyneship is a semester long process when prospective Sphinx Club members undergo various character building exercises like air raids. Chad told me that he had fun throughout Rhyneship because he got to meet people who shared his interests from other living units that he would have not met otherwise. With all this talk of interesting clubs and organizations on the Wabash campus, who knows maybe the Sphinx Club is something I will go out for during my second semester of my sophomore year.
