Snow, Basketball and oh yeah... a New Year
This week over vacation has been a bit of a drag. Some of my closest friends were either out of town or real busy working, although I did spend a lot of my time visiting people. Several times earlier this week I’ve seen people from my high school days at the Providence Place Mall, randomly. Unfortunately I couldn’t always place a face with a name. (If you know what I mean) Also my grades came in earlier this week. Besides one thing I was concerned about (now fixed) my grades look…okay, an I can look forward to initiation. Because I am have so much free time with few obligations I frequently forget what day it is or could be. On Wednesday night I went out on a date with a girl from elementary
school, who apparently made me cry in second grade. We saw the movie Valkyrie, which was better than I expected. After the movie we went to the Fire & Ice restaurant downtown. What’s cool about this restaurant is they prepare your food on this giant grill in front of you. On Thursday I ventured out in the snow and ice to go see my college basketball team of choice (behind the Wabash Little Giants), the Providence College Friars, murder St. John’s University at the newly remodeled Dunkin Donuts Center. As predicted Providence sent St. John’s home with a loss, now only if the Friar Hockey team can win in the same fashion. Later that night I tried to hammer out my plans for the New Year celebrations. Because of the weather was horrible and the temperature hovered around six degrees, church was canceled. Many of my friends were busy with their families or out of town, so basically I was out of luck until I received a call from one of my pledge-brothers. Daniel Ambrosio called me to give good news about a change in his grades. The time was about 11:50 P.M EST. but was two hours behind where he was, at his home in Arizona. We stayed on the phone for a while conversing about our vacations and when the clock struck midnight I bid him a Happy New Year…Eastern Standard Time. I spent the next three hours watching the Entourage marathon on HBO. The next day while reading a book the book I took out from the library a while ago (Digital Fortress by Dan Brown) I figured something out I never real examined before. Since I go
to school in Indiana and live in Rhode Island, it is basically impossible for me the have a girlfriend. Having a long distance with anyone is hard and I put myself in a very awkward situation. I guess this is something I need to figure out myself since I can’t starve myself of female attention for the next four years.
I can not wait until next week. I’ll have to go back to my High School (Times Squared Academy) and mentor to the acting seniors about college. Hopefully I can find some brave souls who are willing to venture out to Indiana for college. I am also meeting with many friends and going to a few parties. I can not believe I head back to Indiana in ten more days. Time flies.
Daniel Joseph Ambrosio
Daniel Ambrosio, or Zona for short, is a tall red head from Apache Junction, Arizona. I first met Daniel on a flight from Detroit to Indianapolis for Honor Scholar Weekend in Mach. Like me, Zona comes from very far away to go to Wabash and is quite arguably the most emotional expressive pledge-brother I know. Zona and I talk to each other about our troubles living in Indiana often and I appreciate his frankness, and trust in me. Daniel is a quarter back on the Wabash College football team, and enjoys the sport very much. He told me he did the high jump in high school so I hope to see him also on the Wabash College Track Team. (hint hint) In addition to being very athletic he also is very smart, particular in the area of language. Daniel helped me quite a few times in German, and has even expressed interests in learning Chinese. Daniel has told me many times to make the trip one day to Arizona to see how he lives, and I cannot wait.
