Birmingham to Memphis

The rest of my week has been quick. On Thursday we traveled from we traveled from Montgomery to Birmingham, Alabama. In Birmingham we visited the 16th Street Baptist Church where 4 little girls died because of a bomb explosion during the Civil Rights movement. We ate lunch at a soul food restaurant several blocks down, after visiting the church. The food at the restaurant was a little more expensive than I would have liked and wasn’t that good. After eating we walked around downtown to a Civil Rights park. We met an interesting fellow in the park and although he looked very suspicious and had very awkward mannerisms, he was very insightful and encouraged us all to stay in school. Our last stop before leaving for Memphis was another Civil Right museum. On our way to Memphis we traveled through Mississippi which wasn’t to eventful. The next day in Memphis we visited 2 museums in one day!  The first one was another Civil Rights museum, which gave me the impression that I’ve seen the same information 8 or so times, just in different cities. The second museum was the Stax museum of Music, which was interesting. After that we had lunch at the Four Way restaurant which served very good soul food. After lunch everyone headed back to the hotel for a long nap before dinner. That night for dinner we went to Beil Street in downtown Memphis. We had dinner at the Kings Café which was great because we had live music and an awesome waitress.
