WOW, I Love the Weekends!
Could I have asked for a better weekend? Well, no not really. Saturday morning I woke up early to go do community service with quite a few Saint Mary’s College girls. We went to the local animal shelter and helped out. At the animal shelter, everyone was split up into different groups. I was put in the group who had the task of picking up toys and poop in the outside play pin (how fun). After that I got the privilege of give Biscuit a walk. Biscuit was a nice brown and black hyperactive dog. Instead of giving Biscuit a walk, he gave me a run. I take it he has been cooped up in the animal shelter and wanted to run free (which gave me my workout for the day). After the community service I saw the end of the soccer game, and watched the football game. As predicted we destroyed Kenyon. During the half time I was really impressed with the different fraternity’s banners. I got so tired being out in the sun all day so I took a nap when the football game ended. I woke up to my roommates parents admiring how well I clean our room, and my decorative taste. (cough…cough) That night I went out with all of my friends to hang out and basically enjoy the weekend and go to the Ben Folds concert. I ended up going to bed around 1AM, and woke up around 8AM to get ready for church. After the great church service I began studying for the rest of the afternoon. I took a break to go to our yearly Track Team Dodge ball game. This year again I am on the opposite team of Coach Morgan. Fortunately for me I actually got him out…once. My main competition was (believe it or not) his son. He got me out at least 3 times! After getting by butt kicked by a middle-schooler I went back to studying for the rest of the night. Let’s go Wabash!

And...Hear...We...Go!
Okay, so Homecoming Weekend is upon us. On Thursday was the regularly scheduled Chapel Sing. Our 14 freshman did as well as we trained them throughout the last three weeks. I really felt that they out sung the other freshman from the other fraternity houses. The Beta freshman tied for 5th place with the Phi Psi’s which wasn’t bad since we traditionally get fifth place. I took that evening to work-out for track and study for the next day. FIRDAY is finally here! I had my 4 classes in the morning then had lunch and worked on the Beta website. Later that afternoon my good friend from DePauw (Chenae) came up and hung out. I felt really bad because I had to leave her in my room while I went to the Lawyer Alumni Dinner. I was really fortunately to meet quite a few alumni who gave me advice about law school and career advice. After the dinner I went back to the house, changed, and went over to the soccer field with Chenae and some of my pledge-brothers to watch the freshman chants. I had a lot of explaining to do with all the different traditions we hold dear. She also made it a point to tell me how much she didn’t appreciate the DePauw chant many freshmen used in their chant. I cant wait for tomorrow. I have factored a football game, soccer game, Ben Folds concert, and maybe have some fun that night into my schedule. I think I am going to have a lot of work to do on Sunday afternoon!

Oh, Homecoming Week....
Whelp, I can’t wait for the weekend. I am not sure if that’s a good thing since this is the beginning of the week. On Monday for dinner the Career Center sent over Scott Crawford, Betsy Knott, and Angie Cook-Smith. They came over with their advice on resumes and internships. They also brought over packets of information about their other services. Although this picture looks like Scott Crawford is helping this young man, the truth is he is doing that but also helping himself to a tasty dinner compliments of the Beta house. Monday night was the first night a few members of the Beta house met together for a house Bible Study. What surprised me most was the number of guys from the freshman class who came out. Hopefully next week more guys from other classes will come out to. On Tuesday after class I went to a meeting on studying abroad. By the end of the meeting (to be honest) as a Philosophy Major, I couldn’t really justify why I wanted to study abroad. I can learn Philosophy anywhere and I really don’t have an interest in ancient Philosophy of the Greek era. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be, who knows? That night I attended my regularly weekly Student Senate meetings. I now have a new rule, Student Senate meetings should remain under an hour, because if it goes over that it is sometimes obvious we tend to argue about…miniscule details. On Wednesday I was so busy. After track practice I had some time to talk with my mom about my week and study. After some studying I went to the Wabash Christian Meeting, which was interesting. After which I spent the rest of the evening reading for class on Friday. This weekend needs to hurry up!
P.S The pledges began on their float for homecoming….interesting…

Could Have Been More Eventful....
This weekend has been a mixture of interesting and extremely boring. I am pretty sure most students left campus to go visit friends and have fun because very few people were around. Friday afternoon after working out I went to hang out with friends and watch 300 on FX. After getting some Taco Bell and having friends back to my room to watch the rest of 300 I noticed that my roommate Donavan still did not fix the couch cover that he messed up earlier that morning. I sent him a text message about it so hopefully he doesn’t think I am making a big deal about it, because as we all know, “A clean room is a happy room”. Saturday morning I woke up and went to the soccer game. The game on Saturday was against The College of Wooster was one of the most intense soccer games I’ve seen this weekend this season. Thanks to the final goal by Femi, Wabash prevailed with a 2 to 1 victory. That afternoon I went to study at the library, workout, and then study more. Sunday was an awesome day, except the weather. In the morning I went to Pleasant View Baptist Church and listened to Pastor Terry’s preaching on church duties. That afternoon I went to Home Depot with Donavan to buy a replacement table top for our coffee table. I wanted Plexiglas but a small sheet was like $40, and wasn’t even thick enough! So, I decided to settle on a sheet of wood that was a reasonable $15. I thought about staining the wood but for some reason that just seems like too much work and the light tan of the wood compliments the brown and black earth tones of our room (lol). Hanging out in the room my other roommate John decided to chuck a Gatorade bottle at me for fun. I decided to wrestle him chucking the bottle at me. Lesson learned: DO NOT wrestle your 6’3, 240 lbs roommate, he just may pin you and give you a killer noogie. Later that evening we had initiation. I am so proud of the 4 of my dear pledge-brothers who were initiated. The whole initiation process made me realize how much I treasure having such good people around me here at Beta. This week I have a Computer Science test I am currently studying for and a ton of work as usual. To those who are reading, have a good week!
P.S Congrats to our Football, Soccer, and RUGBY TEAM for all winning this weekend.

Speedo+Fraternity=Awesome!
On Thursday, Chapel Talk went as planned. As you can tell the pledges were very eager to hear what Professor Himsel by their cheery disposition. Professor Himsel talked about how Sonia Sotomayor would have basically made better judicial decision because of her experience as a Latino woman. He mentioned several times during his Chapel Talk that the point of his talk wasn’t to answer any of the questions he was posing but just to raise the topic. I spent the rest of the afternoon preparing for Friday’s classes. That evening after attending AMP’D, we (the Beta house) took our formal and crazy pictures for out in front of our house. Last year I was hidden in our freshman crazy picture, but this year I was in the front row wearing a Speedo. Finally it is Friday and I cannot wait for the weekend! To be honest I really had nothing planned for this weekend but just to finish some homework and CHILLAX! After my classes I went back to the house to have lunch, clean the room, and make a visit to career services to get some resume help. Tonight, I have no idea what I am going to do after I workout, hopefully there are some good movies on TV.

Late Nights
So it is Tuesday morning around 1:30 AM and I am online looking up new desktop wallpapers for my computer before I go to bed. At the same time I hear a disturbing noise coming from two sides of our room. I discover that both my roommates can snore really loud. I finally got to bed and tried to fall asleep but the snoring persisted. I woke up the next morning not really feeling refreshed because of my lack of sleep. The moral of this story is one of two things, you can either learn to tolerate snoring or you can learn to snore along. I decided to take the passive approach and learn to tolerate it. Back tracking a little bit, on Monday during my first class of the day I was randomly selected to write a 2 page report on the chapter assigned for the next class period. This was a pleasant surprise at 8 AM in the morning. On Tuesday the highlight of my day was going to the pre-law meeting for juniors and sophomores. Professor Himsel talked a lot about the competitive nature of law school admissions. On the bright side I still have 6 more semesters to get ready to make a good impression on law schools. Track practice has been going well although many of the new and old members of the track team have been getting sick lately so the workouts have been kind of lonely. Today, Wednesday, I finally got my new Blackberry in the mail. No wonder people refer to it as the crackberry, because it is so much fun and I have so much access to everything all in my hand. Today there was also a soccer game in which I attended, against DePauw. Although tied DePauw but I still think we obviously were the better team. I am really proud to see one of our own Beta pledges, Alex Lyon, out there in his number 17 jersey making plays!

Well, If it isnt the Weekend!
This weekend has been magical. I had so much to do that I rarely found a moment to breath. On Saturday morning I, along with the pledges, did some philanthropy work with giving back to the Crawfordsville community in helping Habitat for Humanity. We helped put in insulation in the attic of a new house they are building behind the football practice fields. We also helped begin to put in the cabinets. That afternoon I went to the first home football game where we completely destroyed Denison University. I was really proud of our pledges because of how they got their new security shirts, and made a banner with all the football Beta brothers numbers on it. After the game thought I would get some school homework done for the rest of the night. Around 10PM I took a break from doing school work and noticed that I was all alone. No one was in the Beta house. Everyone had left and was hanging out elsewhere. I decided instead of feeling bad for myself, I would go out to and have fun. The next morning after much hanging out I went to Indianapolis for the Colts game verses the Jacksonville Jaguars. Interestingly enough one of our pledges Jonny Dillon, won tickets too from the Wabash Experience Indiana program as well. So, all along the way we talked about life in general which was cool. While in downtown Indy we ate at Rock Bottom, and enjoyed the awesome weather (kinda mad I missed church for a football game though). While in the stadium we all enjoyed the open air feel in the roof being open. Back at school I spent the rest of the night doing school work (fun right). Hopefully, this week can match this weekend with all the meetings, tests, readings and homework I have….Keep praying!

Fall is Coming!
Last year I really didn’t care to go to Chapel Talks, because I didn’t think they benefited my time. Now that I am older and wiser I really find the talks to be good for life lessons and a different view on the Wabash experience. On Thursday I went to the Chapel Talk given by Dean Raters. During his talk he gave me a shout out for the work I did over the summer with him on the Project Coach Camp. That afternoon I even noticed that fall is right on our heels with the nice foliage giving Wabash a little New England feel. I spent Thursday night working as usual for my busy class schedule on Friday. Friday, after my last class at noon, I went back and worked on a C&T paper, ordered my new Blackberry, and hung out with friends. That even got to know one of our new freshmen (Joe, member of the Wabash Soccer team) pretty well. This weekend seems like it is going to be so much fun. Habitat for Humanity work in the morning, football and soccer games in the afternoon already seems like a full day. COLTS GAME SUNDAY!

Just My LUCK!
Well ladies and gentleman it is official. The latest scare is H1N1! I am beginning to detest how everyone and their great grandma is obsessing over this (I honestly saw a student walk to class with a face mask on). Just take a page from the book of Dr. Andre Adeyemi and stay away from sick people, wash your hands (always), and drink your 8 ounces of orange juice every day. I feel like this week has been the routine setting week. On Tuesday night (as a Class Representative for the class of 2012) I went to the Student Senate meeting. The main topic of the meeting was approving the budget for all the clubs on campus, which took quite a while. The most eventful t hing on Wednesday besides going to Wabash Christian Men, and having lunch with Brock Graham that night (while typing this blog entry mind you) I broke our glass table. So I thought I heard a noise outside. I walked over to the window in the process knocking my head into our dartboard. The giant, stupid dart board, hit by back and then smashed right into our glass table (My luck, right). So now we are glassless for our glass table, and my roommate in John Holm’s parents are coming this weekend. I hope I can remain clumsy free for the rest of this week. Please pray for me!

Why Can't All My Weekends Be Like This?
This weekend could not have been any better. Saturday morning I woke up early to watch my pledge-brother and roommate Donavan White destroy his competition in the Cross Country meet held here at Wabash. During the meet my Cross meet Coach Morgan put me to work flagging down cars so they would not run over the runners on the course, because I wasn’t running in this meet. A little after that I watched my good friends on the soccer team shut down Alma College. I only stayed for about 45minutes of the game because after that I drove down to DePauw University to pick up a good friend of mine Amanda. While at DePauw she gave me a quick tour of her sorority house and of the campus. We drove back to Crawfordsville to have lunch and hang out. On Sunday we went to church that morning together, then I drove her back to DePauw. Once I got back to Wabash I finished up some of my school work as usual then went to Indianapolis with my pledge-brother and roommate Donavan because it was his father’s 50th birthday party. While at the party I not only saw many of his family members I haven’t seen in while. In addition to that I saw my track Coach, Coach Morgan and his family there. Im pretty sure next weekend will be just as awesome. I have quite a few things planned, and hopefully my friend Amanda from DePauw will come visit me again, now I have to finish my C&T reading!
P.S Good job Beta pledges on painting the bench.

Chapel Talk & C&T!
Tis the season for Chapel Talk. On Thursday I went to this school year’s first Chapel Talk after my Classical Rhetoric class. The chapel talk was given by President White. His message was tailored to the seniors in keeping Wabash seniorities. President White described Wabash seniorities not like normal seniorities, because it deals with helping others and being a positive role model. The interesting part of his chapel talk was the story he told of how him and his life met a giant brown bear while hiking over the summer. After the Chapel was lunch, and then an afternoon to myself….to do work. Friday was a weird day. I had my C&T class switched because there were way too many people in my original C&T class. The unfortunate part about this situation is that I have a 8AM class in Baxter 201, then C&T in Baxter 202, Computer Science in Hays, then back to Baxter 201 for Philosophy of Logic. So, basically my world revolves around the second floor of Baxter three days a week. That afternoon I had my workout as usual, then did my house duty as Beta News Editor and edited the website and added our new pledges. That night I continued the trend of working, just this time on homework because hopefully, if things go to plan, I’ll have company this weekend.

Here We Go!
This week was full of nice surprises already! On Monday I woke up at 7 AM for my 8 AM Political Science class. After 12 PM I did not have class for the rest of the day which was reassuring because this is the time I decided to devote to accomplishing school work. That afternoon I received my routine physical for track. The comforting thing was that I did not have to fill out a ton of paperwork (like the freshman had to), or have a full body exam; I just needed to get my height and weight checked along with my blood pressure. That night was the first chapter meeting of the school year. Dr. Roberts (the Beta advisor), gave us some valuable advice about health and Swine Flu. Tuesday was a glorious day to be alive because I only had one class (Classical Rhetoric). After this class was the now annual Wabash College Community Fair. The fair was awesome, plain and simple. Not only did the fair include quality free stuff, I also entered to win a Nintendo WII, got a hand massage, a bite to eat, and found a ton of places to eat and visit in Crawfordsville and in the surrounding area. After leaving the place I now label “heaven on Earth” (the Wabash College Community Fair) I attended my first Student Senate meeting later that evening. Since it was the first meeting of the school year we all had to dress up and have a formal meeting. At the end of the meeting I discovered that “the more things change the more they stay the same”! On Wednesday (today) was another day where I had to get up for Political Science! I am beginning to think getting up this early is going to getting some use to. I woke up to no breakfast which I am not normally use to because the pots and pans weren’t cleaned. I cannot wait for pledge-ship to start so the freshman can start cleaning! That evening I went to a Wabash Christian Men’s meeting and continued to study. TONIGHT is the night pledge-ship starts for the 15 lucky Beta freshman.
