The Monkey is off the back!

Homecoming, that's a day to remember. Many alumni returning, many families on campus, fraternities with floats and activities planned all day, a huge football game, and... the soccer Little Giants trying to get the monkey off their backs. †

The last time the soccer team won a home game "Lost" wasn't on the air yet, the Bears hadn't seen a play off game in a decade, and Chelsea was still without a Premier League championship in fifty years. That was Fall 2004. Two years, two long years that have brought many changes and many disappointments to the soccer Little Giants. †

Today, though, we did it! We broke the spell and won our Homecoming game against Hiram College with a score of 3 to 1. The boys played good soccer, at times very entertaining, and even though in the days preceding the game I had told them that it didn't matter how we won as long we did, the players put together a good show for the couple hundred fans that honored us with their presence.

I don't want to jinx the team, myself and/or the players, but I feel something special is in the air... something to believe in... something awakening, something blowing from West Indiana; from a small town called Crawfordsville; from a group of guys who may have changed their stars today, Homecoming day, in the Fall of the year two thousand and six.

Great team work today, lads, great TEAM work!
