Bob Cassady, '12

Hey guys my name is Bob Cassady. I live up in South Bend, I went to Mishawaka Marian, and played club for Jr. Irish and Indiana Invaders. I like to play mostly defense and outside mid.

So today I just got home from a three day stay in Michigan. I am not sure if anyone reading this has seen a show like man vs wild or survivor man, but a couple of buddies and myself attempted to survive in the woods for a five days. Well that was our goal anyway. Our only supplies were: a couple of swiss army knives, two hatchets, a metal pot, fishing line, and a flint. We got out there in the wild, got a fire going, and built a pretty decent shelter. As of now, it sounds like things are going all right.

The first night comes along; it rains. Now things are not going quite as smooth. We get about an hour or so of sleep, and wake up around five. Oh, and at this point all we had to eat was some cat-tail and... that's it. We also, after about two hours of boiling it, drank some stream water. By the time we finally drank the water it was mid-night and pitch black outside. If it had not been dark out, I am not sure any of us could have stomached the water, because in the morning after more carefully studying the water, we found it was the delightful shade of diarrhea brown... wonderful.

So morning rolls around, and it is still raining. We go out looking for more firewood, and my friend falls in a creek getting soaked up to his waist. He gets hypothermia. Things are going downhill fast now. Throughout the course of the day we catch only a frog, which we boiled and ate. Every other hunting endeavor is a dead end. At the end of the day with my friend shivering to death and all of us realizing that we are not going to find food any time soon, we call it quits. It was probably our best decision seeing as the second we got back to my friend's house, a nasty storm came through. So we gave it an effort and came to realize that nature is much much stronger then a couple of nineteen year old guys. So that's my summer so far, good luck with coach's workouts.
