Lollapalooza
Last weekend (Aug 1-3) I made my second trip to the renowned music and arts festival, Lollapalooza in Grant Park in the Chi. Now last years fest was unbelievable and I thought there would be no way they could put on a festival that compared. Well I was wrong. Somehow the, promoters got Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, and Nine Inch Nails, who happen to be three of my favorite band and three of the best live acts in the world. And for those of you who are more into the hip-hop scene, Kanye and Lupe were there and put on great shows.
Day 1 consisted of me camping out all day for nearly front row seats at Radiohead. With 90 degree heat and the fact that I couldn't leave my spot for food or water made for a long 8 hours. But when Radiohead took the stage It was all worth it. The sound and visuals coming from the Brits on stage were extraordinary, truly a piece of art.
Day 2 was more of the same conditions camping out for the extremely political and Socialist band Rage Against the Machine which was playing a rare concert on the reunion tour. They disbanded in 2000. Lets just say if I survived this concert, I think I can survive pretty much anything. The most intense show I've ever been to. With no room to move, barricades were breaking and the crowd began to get out of control resulting in the concert being halted 3 times by the band asking the crowd to back up and be careful. People were getting lifted out of the crowd crying and in pain. I made it out in one piece so overall it was a good time, I may have to venture up to Minnesota to see them again before they're done for good.
I roamed around from stage to stage on day 3 ultimately ending up at Nine Inch Nails to close the fest. I watched John Butler, one of Coach O's favorites, wow the crowd on his acoustic. I saw Girl Talk ride off stage on an inflatable raft held up by the crowd.
I go write about this forever but I'll spare you. I misplaced my camera cord so I can't show you any original pictures but there are photos online if you wish to check them out.
Well, that's about it for now, sounds like everyone is making the most of their summers. Can't wait to get back on the pitch again. Enjoy this final week and catch ya'll later.
