The Shortest Summer Thus Far
Most of the summer has been flying by for me. After not getting home until mid-June from my trip abroad, I essentially headed straight to campus to begin my job. I’ve been working in the Chemistry Department as a research intern working on improving the parameters of pharmaceutical reactions. On the side, I’ve also had to start the graduate school application to reach my goal of becoming a physical therapist/athletic trainer. Let me put it this way, the process is like pulling teeth… I will just be happy when it’s over! But away from the boring stuff, I’ve been able to have a bit of fun too.
While Crawfordsville has been pretty dormant over the summer with work and lack of students on campus, I’ve managed to make my own fun. Weekend trips were frequent for me, including ones to Holiday World, Chicago, and Cincinnati, but I also even managed to get home for the 4th of July weekend. For the most part, these trips have kept me sane in the wake of the short summer full of work. I’m pretty jealous that Coach Giannini has been able to travel Europe… I’m missing it already!
Apart from travelling, I’ve also gotten fairly involved in soccer training for the upcoming preseason. In addition a routine of running and lifting, I’ve joined up with FC Indiana from Lafayette for training sessions and matches. I also attended a Goalkeeper Academy at Butler University for a little specialized work. As a bonus, I even met two of the incoming players next year (Ian Kelly and Pat West) through these summer sessions. Let’s just say that judging the incoming class from these two guys, I’m definitely excited to get the season started on the 17th!
Overall, the summer has been rewarding, however short. I’ve done my best to get the most out of it, but I’m anxious for the next few weeks to pass. Running by Mud Hollow everyday is getting me pumped to meet up with all of you again in 2 weeks.
Enjoy the rest of summer fellas, see you soon.
