Happy New Year...
...in August? For most people, New Year's celebrations do happen on January 1st. For coaches, it takes place at the end of August when the academic year begins. With the start of classes a group of new fresh faces are on campus. We are excited about our crop of incoming prospects. The following freshman could make an immediate impact:
Aaron Brock, 6'6- Bremen, IN, Kyle Brasher, 5'10- Evansville, IN, Chase Haltom, 5'8- Cloverdale, IN, and Greg Slisz, 6'9- Indianapolis, IN. There are also others that we think will have a bright future.
Although it is a sad time to say goodbye to a large group of seniors (pictured above), we were happy with what they accomplished last year: beating in-state rivals DePauw and Franklin, defeating National Runner-Up Wittenberg University and finishing in the top four in the NCAC and hosting a playoff game for the fifth consecutive year.
In losing six seniors, we need our returning players to really step up. We are expecting big things from 6-5 junior Andrew Zimmer, Hobart, IN (pictured right). He is coming off a 26-point, 7-rebound performance in our final game of last season. We also need our lone senior, 6'9 Ryan Stephens, Zionsville, IN to be a force inside. Gary Simkus, a 6'6 junior from Highland, IN will again be a defensive stopper and slashing scorer. On the perimeter, Earl Rooks a 5'7 junior from Dallas, TX looks to pick up where he left off last season with his solid play.
At this time the guys are on-their-own working on their game and on strength development. We are encouraged by what we have seen thus far and hope they continue to use the preseason to their advantage.

It sounds like coach Mulligan has an optimsitic outlook for the upcoming season. He sounds confident that the incoming freshman will compliment the existing core players to make this new team exciting to follow. I'm hoping for a great season for the "Little Giants"
