Football in the Fall

Seth Tichenor ’10 - The month of August signals one of two feelings for football players. These are eagerness or apprehensiveness.  Incoming freshmen almost always favor the latter of the two.  However, returning players know that August means a chance for the family to come back together.  This family has been separated since the spring.  Each player has worked hard not for his goals but for the team’s goals.   When we reported Tuesday afternoon, it was like each of us had not seen each other for years.  Hugs, laughs, and smiles were exchanged on reporting day.  Sweat was exchanged at Camp.  Camp is where the football family really becomes the football family.  It is also where we bring the freshmen into the family.  Camp had two goals:  Get better at football and become a family.  We did these.  We are continuing to do these.  Our motivation is always the same.  Hard work and sweat means a chance at greatness on Saturdays in the fall.
