Coach's Corner - "The Home Opener"

Everybody talks about the great atmosphere here on campus for home football games.  On Saturday, I finally got to experience it firsthand and I was not disappointed. Despite a lightning delay, we had a great crowd and they were behind us the whole way.

Our focus this week was to “Finish”. Every play, every drive, we wanted to finish.  Offensively, we ran the ball much better. We finished our drives this week, too. A perfect four touchdowns in four trips inside the red zone, was a huge improvement from a week ago.

The biggest improvement came on the defensive side of the ball. Our first team defense held University of Chicago to fewer than 120 yards and kept them off the scoreboard. Dan Ryan Wood made a great break on the ball and intercepted a pass and returned it 64yards for the TD. It was a huge lift right before the half for the second week in a row.

We made the improvement a team needs to make between week one and two. Hopefully, we’ll have another great week of practice and continue improving. There is still plenty of work to be done, but the home opener was definitely a step in the right direction.
