Coach's Corner - "Wabash ALWAYS Fights"
It wasn’t pretty, but it felt great after the game.
We turned the ball over 5 times, accumulated over 100 yards in penalties and our punter touched his knee to the ground trying to field a low snap, but our guys kept fighting. No matter how many things went wrong, our guys never lost confidence. After every setback, you could hear someone on our sideline remind the team “Wabash Always Fights!”
Our defense was awesome. They carried us. We constantly put them in terrible field position but they just came up with one stop after another. They responded when their backs were against the wall. Late in the fourth quarter, Bubba Lange and Bryan Watson combined for the biggest defensive play of the game when they forced a Witt fumble. It was just the spark that our offense needed. Two plays later Matt Hudson hit Kody Lemond on the sideline for a touchdown and the game was tied. The defense continued to dominate. We got the ball back with one last chance on our own 46
yard line with just 28 seconds on the clock. Matt hit Kody for 35 yards down the Witt sideline on the first play. After one throw to the end zone, we sent the field goal unit into the game. Spencer Whitehead drilled the 41 yarder and we had a hard fought win on the road.
