Thoughts from Adrian Perez
To be honest, I really didn’t expect my day to go so well. Many things flew by my mind before waking up and getting ready to go. Was I going to perform my duties in a timely manner? Was I going to mess up and possibly end up hurting someone in the process? Of course, I realized I was overreacting and started my day on a different foot. We woke up pretty early today and fixed ourselves breakfast and lunch. I’m not really much of a coffee drinker, but my goodness was that coffee marvelous. We waited until Brother Vance got back from Home Depot to get some supplies, and boarded our vans to the ninth ward where we began our construction. Upon arriving there, I was appalled at the work we were expected to do. A wooden house had drifted over to our property’s backyard. For some reason there rested a foreign wooden roof atop our house, drooping down onto the lawn. Inside the house, it was a construction worker’s nightmare. We persevered, and after numerous breaks, we got the job done. My experience today taught me that nothing can get in the way of Wabash men working together. Our diverse group really demonstrates what the power of teamwork can do. I was surprised how much we got done, and I was even more surprised at the fact that I didn’t get hurt for wearing sandals. I must give credit to Reverend Keith and his fellow workers who made this trip possible for us. Their priceless expertise came into play all the time.
