Mid Week Again

I am incredibly glad to see Wednesday come and go. I find myself in what I hope to become my study room in the library, studying away hoping to have a very easy ThursdayThe cool room and Friday. So far its been a pretty typical week, track workouts have been a little difficult though, I was glad today when we got in the pool for some aqua-jogging instead of running on the track. I worked ahead all week so that tonight and tomorrow night I can work on studying for my Chem quiz on Friday. It's worked out nicely. Friday, I'll be catching a free trip into Indianapolis and having my parents pick me up to go home for a bit until the bus leaves for Wabash. It's a nice chance for a quick break to see the family for a few hours. This also provides the first opportunity for me to meet my sisters new boyfriend, he better bring his A game.

16 more days and I will be enjoying 3 weeks of leisure preparing for a new semester. As always, its been incredibly fast, fun, and new. The experiences I've already gone through to this point have been wide, diverse, and unexpected. I can only hope next semester brings as much enjoyment to my life.

Back to School

Thanksgiving break was a godsend. I love the concept of taking a week off right before the teachers bring us back into session to tear us apart with every last bit of knowledge they've yet to cram into our brains. Lovely isn't it? Break was a good time, very relaxing, I woke up no earlier than noon on just about every day. I did manage to put off all of my homework until today and am attempting to finish my philosophy paper at this very moment. I officially am camera-less for a while so until I get it back I am unsure of how I'll give you all enjoyable pictures to gaze o-so-desirably over.

I've found myself diving right back in to where I left off, no real changes, no big news upon arriving back in the house. It seems everyone is ready to get mind beaten by the professors and then head home for the holidays. (19 days)

I did get the official confirmation over break that I was accepted by Volunteer Visions to partake in a medical mission project in Peru this summer. If all goes according to plan I'll be in Peru for about 8 weeks this summer working at the hospital and clinics around the capital city, Lima. I'm pretty excited/nervous about it but I think it should be one hell of an opportunity.

Congrats to the football team.

Thanksgiving Break

What a great concept: giving the students a week off for Thanksgiving Break. Work hard, play hard. The rest of the week at Wabash was pretty typical. A lot of homework andMe and the mystery blogger. studying with pretty full days.

I went down to IU for the Oaken Bucket game Saturday and had a pretty solid time. It was good to catch up with a few of my friends including the one that is attempting to take over my blog. I caught up on some time with my brother and can honestly say I think the Monon Bell is a much better rivalry.

On a side note, all of us were pretty amazed at how fast the semester has gone, after this week we'll have 3 weeks left and then we're into semester 2. It's going crazy fast.

Typical Week

It's been a pretty typical week to this point, yesterday was a pretty crammed day. I woke up, registered for classes at 7:30, went to class from 8-11:10, took an hour nap over lunch, woke up and ate, did my cleaning crew and some homework, went to track at 4:30, ate dinner at a networking event by career services, went to study tables until 11, then finished reading philosophy until about 1 and went to bed. The networking was an attempt to establish some connections with alumni in different health careers. There were a couple business men, a dentist, and a couple of doctors. It was pretty cool to talk to them about their experiences at Wabash and learn about how the school has impacted them.

Today has been just about as busy as yesterday except that I woke up at 10 and went to the campus doctor - which literally is like a mini-doctor clinic with a lobby and about 3 patient rooms with beds and just about everything else you would see at the doctor's office. On top of that, they actually gave me the prescription free of charge without taking my insurance. I think it's just a benefit of being a student and all, they just keep a few antibiotics and pretty common drugs and hand for the students. They should come in handy during the winter season - although I did get a flu shot when the nurses came to campus.

In a more comical note, the rhynies had to shave their legs, cut off one pant leg of their greys, and paint their leg green. This apparently has to do with the fact back in the day, if the freshmen broke a rule, they appeared before the senior council and if ruled guilty had to shave a W in their head and wear around long green underwear.

What a Weekend.

Where do I begin? Thursday afternoon was a pretty solid time at College Mentors for Kids. We all went around on a Monon Bell scavenger hunt taking the kids around the Allen Rec Center, football field, and now missing bell. My little buddy is finally starting to warm up to me and its pretty funny watching all the little boys run around, I assure you they live up to every stereotype about little boys possible. We took them to the middle of the field and all they wanted to do was run around since they were in a big open field. When we asked them to make posters saying good luck for the football team, my little buddy drew a Wabash football player stomping on a Depauw player. It was a good afternoon.

Friday brought the keg game which was phenomenal. It was officially my first trip to Depauw as a Wabash student and amidst all the harassing cheers and dirty looks, was an enjoyable time. We did win the keg game it I think it should be noted Chris Pearcy nailed the kick to send us into OT and then another to win the game. Friday night was pretty fun also. The alumni from the house came back and hung out for a while and the bell was in our kitchen most of the night.

Saturday was a disappointment, but still proved to be a good time. It was the first time I went to the Monon Bell game and was very impressed with the rivalry. If you have never been I would highly encourage you to go to the game. As a student, it was a great privilege to be a part of a rivalry thats been ongoing for 114 years. I am a proud Little Giant and still claim that title amidst a lucky first time 47 yard kick by a Dannie.

I look forward to Friday and some much needed time with my family. Saturday I'll be at the Oaken Bucket game at IU to hang with my brother and will spend the rest of the time around family and friends. I am pretty curious as to how college has been treating them since we all went to different colleges.

Bell Week

What a week is has been so far. Monday was pretty typical, however, the day wasLCA holding down the fort.  accompanied by a bell on the Chapel steps, many Depauw Swallows chants, and a certain excitement in the air. I did manage to catch a guest speaker talk about gender roles in education which was very interesting stuff to say the least. Tuesday was our big night to guard and can honestly say it was probably one of the better nights I've had here - we've been talking about it all day. At about 8:00, I made my way to the chapel steps to begin guarding that glorious bell. The evening was accompanied with burgers at midnight, a big gathering of wallies, and some completely random events throughout the night such as hedge-diving. If you get the chance you should check out the middle of the bush to the right of the chapel, theres a giant hole in the middle of it, it was pretty funny watching the kid discover that all the padding the bush previously offered was gone. Overall it was a great opportunity to bond with fellow associates of LCA, and other wallies on campus. I can only hope for many more nights like that and look forward to the bell game.

New Week, New Room

Today marked the third and final rotation for the freshmen at Lambda Chi. I can honestlyMy new bunk. say I am very glad this is the last time I'll have to pack up and move to a location for a while - it got old after the first time. I do like the new set up though. This week should be a very interesting and fun week. As most of you know, tonight marks the beginning of Bell week. Freshmen will be guarding the campus all week, we'll be alternating nights among the fraternities. Tuesday night is Lambda Chi's night so it should make for a fairly sleepless, but fun week. I do have a couple of tests this week also but thankfully my chemistry test is tomorrow and I already have my essay done that's due Tuesday. I'm pretty excited for the festivities.

Finally Some Closure

After what was a very, long, emotionally challenging week, I have found some closure. Tuesday morning, the chapel was filled to hear speakers talk in an official Lambda Chi Alpha ritual memorial for Patrick, the speakers spoke well and shed light on Patrick. Wednesday afternoon we left for Kendallville and attended the showing. It was a pretty crowded showing with many people there. I did get a bit choked up there at first but then seeing all the people whose lives he had touched and the funny pictures of him, it sort of shed a new light on the scene. Patrick was a great kid, brought humor into all our lives, and hopefully had some positive impact. The funeral was somber, crowded, and put a final closing to the whole process. I hope those in attendance received as positive an impact from it as I did. I'm sure he's looking down upon us now, sporting that smile, and giving us that goofy little wave. RIP Patrick Woehnker.

I would also like to thank the entire Wabash community. The support offered was very widespread. From teachers making meals for us, to professors working with us on our assignments and due dates, to flowers, to prayers, the Wabash community stepped up big on this one and really helped get us through this first week. We are very grateful for all your support and I am incredibly glad to be a part of such a close-knit caring community.

It will be hard going on with our lives and we must never forget Patrick but nonetheless, he would want us to continue...
