Summer Break Update #1

Break has been... busy. May 7th I had my first summer class at IUPUI. It really was kind of a bummer to get out of school and then immediately go right back into classes. It's only one though and it's honestly not that bad at all. We're already 2/3rds of the way through the first semester and then I'll have class until August 4th. Not ideal, but if I get it out of the way this summer, I'll be able to do something fun next summer.

In the mornings, I've been waking up about 4 to go to the Natatorium and lifeguard from 5-11. It's about the single most boring thing I've ever done in my life. Honestly, I cannot think of a job that is a worse fit for my personality. By the time 11 rolls around, I'm ready to go run. Class is from 1-3:30, so getting work out of the way in the morning hasn't been too bad of a set-up. The hours are nice, the work is rough.

In the 2 hour break I have between work and class, I've been sitting on the canal in this sort of grassy park overlooking the river and eating lunch, then reading and napping. I imagine it's sort of comical to see a student just sleeping in the middle of this park. I don't care though, it's nice to be outside.

Weekends have been a blast. It's really pretty crazy how much the work hard M-F, play hard Friday-Sunday attitude has taken over for me. You have to reward yourself for hard work though, that's one thing Wabash supports strongly. This past weekend, the guys and I went to my buddies grand-parents lake for a night of fishing, swimming, and getting away from the city. Friday night was a blast, we were just running around in the country, acting like hill-jacks. I wore a sleeveless Keystone Light tshirt, "roughneck" trucker hat, jean shorts, and boots with high socks. I fit in well. We ended up getting rained in on Saturday though. I think about 5 of the 7 had a job we were supposed to work, but honestly there was no way we were getting back to Indy, we were just south of Bloomington. So what do we do when all sense of adult responsibility is removed from our daily lives? We took the 3 golf carts out, split into teams, and drove around the land throwing mud, sticks, and corn stalks at each other until we were tired of that. Then we got in the lake to rinse off, and did the same thing again with the smelly lake muck. It was good to resort to being a kid a again.
