The Start of a New Year...

I think I'll start this year with a reflection...

I went home today to take my dad some tools I brought to put up some stuff in my room, check the pictures. I came back to a house empty of freshmen; and it was a The new room...bit quiet. There were a few radios on, but other than that, it was a pretty quiet house. Our freshmen are painting the bench tonight and it kind of hit me how much bringing in a new class to the wabash family builds excitement. I remember once August came around, thinking about the new class and wondering what kind of guys I'd be welcoming into the Wabash family this year.

I can really say I've been impressed with our freshman class thus far. I have to give a shout out to Joey Niezer for rushing 21 new associates for LCA, a class far bigger than we've seen in years. It seems to me one would expect a few duds in a class that big: kids that you don't quite feel gel with the rest of the house. But honestly, I've yet to find one. It's kind of weird thinking back on my thoughts and actions during this welcome week last year and the excitement that came with it. I can see it in their eyes and I really can't describe it, but its crazy thinking back on my past expectations and beliefs of what Wabash would be for me.

So I'm walking back from bench painting tonight across an empty mall, clear skies on and Indiana night the likes of mid-October; I pause in front of the chapel and look up toBeauty. a brightly lit white and brick chapel imbibing so much of what Wabash is. I don't think any true Wabash man could walk past this without pausing. In that moment, I reflected back on my freshman year: the ups and downs, broken expectations, trials surpassed, and unexpected triumphs. It feels good to be a Wabash man and I can only imagine what this year will bring.

I give props to admissions for the recruitment on the class of 2012, to the seniors and faculty who put together freshman welcome week, and to everyone who played a role in getting the next generation of Wabash men on campus. I think we're all excited to see another year at Wabash College play out and excited to see what the next generation of Wabash men has to bring to the table. Wabash Always Fights.

Ready to go Back...

I really think I am. I've had this past week off to sort of get ready for moving in on Saturday and it's gone fast. Of course, waking up at noon everyday when my parents get home for lunch doesn't exactly make for a long day. I think it's all right though, in 2 weeks, I'll be putting in 10 hours of sleep a week and studying like crazy. But again, I think I'm ready for it. I think I really miss the place and just learning information in general. If you haven't figured out by now, I'm a big dork and love it.

If you didn't pick up on it, I'm moving in Saturday and have about 2 weeks off before my first class. Schedules came in the mail earlier this week. It will be a challenging year, but I really am ready to go and do some serious work on the chemistry/biology departments.

I guess the only other bit I have to say is a big congrats to the entire Wabash community on the rankings we've been making according to some national institutes. I think our numbers really stand alone. It really makes me proud to be a Wabash man.
