Welcome to Lanelines
As the swimming and diving team wraps of the first half of our season and prepares for our December Invites, I thought it would be a good time to start a Wabash Swimming Blog. The plan is to have a place where the team, parents, alums, and recruits can stay connected. Plus, I hear they're pretty hip.
We’re naming this site Lanelines in honor of Coach Pebworth and the newsletter she created for our alums and swimmers. Gail had such a tremendous impact on the program, and continues to make her mark on Wabash Swimming and Diving today. Not only has she influenced my training philosophies, and improved my swimming knowledge, but she has also been an amazing mentor. She has continually offered support and advice at exactly the right moments throughout my time here – and I am very thankful. As many alums have told me, and I now can see clearly for myself, Gail can get the most out of just about anyone… and she always inspires you to do more - and do it better.
I do plan on visiting this blog often with quick updates, photos, and the coolest “late breaking” news and info. This weekend we are busy and the team will be competing in several places – so a trip back Monday will get you caught up with what happened. Our divers will be home hosting the Wabash Diving Invite. Howard Bailey, our diving team manager, has done a tremendous job with our divers and we are all excited to see how they place. Also I am taking 19 swimmers to DePauw this weekend for their 9 team invitational. And finally, Ben Hewitt and Nick Collins are heading to the Miami Invite in Ohio with a small group for some of the best competition in the Midwest. Every invite should provide the perfect competition for our athletes. I expect we will have some good times when all is said and done (both
literally and figuratively!).
Follow along this weekend and check in on the team at these sites:
Take care and remember…
MORE BETTER.

"Lanelines" is a great name for a Wabash swimming blog. Thanks to coach Casares for starting it up. I hope a lot of swimming alumni will post comments.
Let me be the first to say that I am pleased with the direction coach Casares is taking the team. There have been some pretty quick times swum by Wallies during his tenure. I have a feeling that a large contingent at NCAA's is in the not too distant future. I am also happy to know that coach Pebworth is still somewhat involved.
There were some encouraging swims at the Wabash Invite, and I expect more this weekend in Greendingle. With such a young squad, I am sure there will be tremendous improvement all the way around by the end of the season. Good luck to all the swimmers and divers this weekend.
I am living in Columbus, Ohio, so it is possible I might make the trip to Canton for NCAC championships. An interesting side note: the first time Wabash competed at the NCAC championships (in 2000), at the end of the first session, Wabash was on top of the team standings. (Denison had false started in the timed final 200 free relay, and Kenyon didn't have any divers.) I took a picture of the scoreboard.
Give 'em hell this weekend, men!

Dave! How the hell are you? I was also on that 2000 team that won the first session of conference.
Everyone on that team knew that they could compete with the fastest swimmers in DIII.
Good luck aat DPU and U Miami!

I don't know if I can find that pic. I will do my best to hunt it down, but at best it will probably be at least a couple of weeks (I am coming up on finals week, and most of my stuff from college is in Montana.) We were all pretty pleased with ourselves, so I wouldn't be surprised if other guys from that team took a picture too. Anyone who reads this and has that picture, please send it in to Coach Casares. Many thanks.

This is a great forum for us to keep in touch. For those of you that could not attend our gathering on November 19-20 for the Wabash Invite you missed a great time on the pool deck, the basketball court, and the football field. Keep up the good work Peter and the boys. Wabash always fights!

Thanks for the blog Peter. I see some quick times for early in the season. I hope the team has fun in Florida.
Roy, we need to plan for a larger reunion next year. Hutson, Dixons, Slack, Keller, Barnes, Kay and the rest of you guys, what do you say about getting together?
