Honors Scholar Weeekend
Honors Scholar Weekend has come and gone, and as usual our admission's department put together a fantastic weekend. High School seniors from all over the country had the chance to check out what Wabash has to offer, and get a first hand experience as to why Wabash men are so successful. There is no doubt that Wabash is unique, but more importantly, there is no doubt that Wabash men are well prepared for success in their careers, and more importantly, life.
As a swim team we brought over 25 tremendous young men onto campus, all of which would make a significant impact on our team. Both the team and I could not have been happier with the good times that were had, and the memories that were forged. As a coach recruiting in today's society I am told countless times how talented athletes need to feel wanted - and need one-on-one attention telling them that they are the key to a program's success. What makes Wabash so unique, and my team so amazing, is that all of my guys know that may be the norm, but to man, they all want to be part of something bigger than themselves, and a part of something special.
Bringing 25 plus guys on campus could easily make each individual feel like they are only a small part of our plans, but more importantly, it showed them that together they could come to Wabash and be part of the most amazing team in the country, and maybe even the most talented freshman class in all of DIII swimming! That "collective" attitude, and the understanding that surrounding yourself with the best can only make you better, is exactly what we are all about. Hopefully, as each recruit realized that there were many talented student athletes all around them, they also realized that this just may be the place that they could accomplish more than they ever thought possible.
... and isn't that what it is all about?
