Out Takes!

Senior Kyle Weaver

- Kyle Dunaway

KD: People refer to you as “The Beav.” Can you elaborate on this?

KW: I guess “The Beav” is just a shortened version of what they called me my freshman year during pledgeship.

KD: Is there a particular story behind it or anything you would like to explain further?

KW: We’ll just refer to it as a good story from my pledgeship.

KD: So, tell me more about these derbies you compete in.

KW: Well my Dad has announced them at the Jay County Fair since I was little, so he used to take me to them every year - which sparked my interest from there. This will be my fifth or sixth year competing.

KD: What exactly do you compete in?

KW: It is just a big mud hole - a track with a bunch of mud and water and twenty cars beating on each other until your car won’t function anymore. It’s great because you can’t hit a car anywhere else and get away with it. It is an adrenaline rush every time I get out there on the track.

KD: Have you ever sustained serious injury?

KW: No, but this past weekend was the first time I’ve gotten a concussion in one of them. I have pinched quite a few nerves in my neck before, and a couple buddies and I have managed to burn down an entire barn before, but that’s a crazy story.(Editor's Note: Actual Photo!* For more on Kyle's derby expliots, click here!)

KD: Wow!, can't wait to hear about that... but, fill me in on your summer experience in Nashville.

KW: I just wanted to get away from small town Indiana to see what else was out there and enjoy being young.

KD: Any crazy stories to tell about Nashville?

KW:Not really, but one day and I heard some strange noises coming from outside a house. Some guy snuck around the house and hid behind an old car that was surrounded by overgrown grass. Cops came and I tipped them off. Then I took off, and now my sister is left to deal with it.

KD: Sounds like you experiencing a live episode of Cops!

KD: Given the talent level of this team, what are you looking forward to most in your senior season?

KW: I’m looking for our relays to finally be where they should be at national meet. We finally are deep in talent in each of the individual strokes. I am also looking forward to the challenges these young guys will give me at practice each day.

KD: How do you feel your role as a senior will affect the young guys?

KW: My role as a senior is to be the guy that everyone else looks up to… but I have always been the guy who looked up to everyone else. I think I am just going to have to take a harder look at the decisions I make knowing these guys are looking up to me now.

*Actually, that's not an "actual photo", but it would be pretty cool if it was!
