Florida Training-Day 2
Mack O'Shaughnessy '11--Wow, what a day…and it’s only 4:00PM in the afternoon. After waking up at a very early 8:30AM, we headed down to breakfast. I wasn’t sure what to expect, having slept through breakfast yesterday, but it looked promising: pancakes, oatmeal, and omelets made to order. A half an hour later (still breakfastless, mind you), the short order cook seemed to be rethinking his choice to enter the food service industry. In any case, we all got breakfast and headed for the pool.
Day 2’s practices were a little tougher than Day 1’s--makes sense, huh? We started off with some ‘light’ dryland that I’m still sore from then hit the water to get in our swimming for the morning. Yesterday, Coach Weitz and our chauffeur John Kasey were commenting on how low one of the tires on one of the vans looked. It wasn’t until I got back that I heard what happened. As is typical for any group in a hurry, the tire on one of our vans had gone flat, AND the jack to lift the van broke, AND the van hit the top of the parking garage when it was on the jack, AND there wasn’t enough clearance to put the new tire on the van because of the low ceilings of the parking garage. Nice.
Nevertheless, we made it to the beach after our morning swim. Instead of sand, there were rocks--big rocks, small rocks, medium sized rocks…you name it. Oh, and the jellyfish were none too happy with our presence in their territory. I’m pretty sure about 27 people fell victim to the writhing tentacles of the deadly jellyfishes. A shark attack would have made the afternoon.
