Season Opener

The first meet of the year is officially in the books. The Wabash Swim Team traveled to Kenyon College this past weekend for a conference relay meet. The format of this meet is much different than any regular dual meet because all events are relays and there are no individual events. The final standings set us at 5th out of 9 teams. This was a little disappointing at first due to only losing to Wooster and Wittenberg by a combined 6 points. However, now said and done, I think we can use that as a team in practice and in future meets to push our guys even harder. It is almost like an early season wake-up call alarming the guys that they have a long road to travel and each practice is going to determine if we get to our destination.

Our guys woke up at the Holiday Inn Express Saturday morning eager to get to the "Hummer Dealership", sing the Wabash Fight Song and dive into the pool. Overall, as a team, we were very proud of our guys. Compared to last year, most of our guys were much faster across the board at this meet and that should give them some confidence as they continue to progress through the season. There were a lot of little mistakes that need to be addressed and fixed quickly but luckily for us, the season is still very early and we have plenty of time to work on them. It was great to see all of our guys show up and support each other while others were in the water and continue to represent Wabash with pride and enthusiasm.

These next couple weeks of practice are very important for the guys and their overall season. We will be pushing them extremely hard for the good of the team and to help them reach their individual goals. From what I have seen thus far, our guys will respond quickly and exactly how we need them to. This coming weekend we have a double dual against host Rose-Hulman and Ill. Wesleyan. GO WABASH!
