Long Day for Wabash Swimming

Yesterday was a very long day for the Wabash Swim Team. The plans were to leave the Allen Center at 1pm but as Coach Weitz and I were working throughout the morning, we were not sure the weather was going to allow us to travel the long haul to St. Louis. The final decision was made around 11am that we would indeed be getting on the bus and making the 4.5 hr trip to take on a strong Washington University team. The roads turned out being better than expected and the team made it there with time to spare and a chance to get a great warm up in to prepare for the meet.

The meet itself had its share of good swims and great effort. We are just coming off our Training Trip in Deerfield Beach, Fl and our guys are pretty beat up at this point in the season. However, they stood behind the blocks ready to dive in and give everything they had. Some standout swims that were later pointed out by Coach Weitz on the ride home were Eric Vaughn in the 200 Backstroke, Elijah Sanders and Evan Rhinesmith in the 400 Individual Medley and Joe Reese in the 200 Freestyle.  The meet ended with Washington University getting the win but our guys know what the goals are for this season. They have about two more weeks of solid practice before we start tapering down for Conferences. This meet ends up being very good for our team because it puts swimmers in the pool next to our guys that will give them a race. They are a great team and our guys gave them some exceptional races. WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS! That was truly apparent last night.

The meet itself only took a little over an hour and we were getting ready to get back on the bus and head home. We ended up pulling on campus around 2:30am and I’m pretty sure I can speak for everyone that we were ready to get off of that bus and into our beds. Looking ahead, we travel to the University of Indianapolis on Friday to take on a powerful Greyhound team. Our guys will once again get another opportunity to go up against a team which will give them an chance to get up and race!
