Service Project
This past weekend was an awesome experience for the wrestling team as they went to a local church for a service project. The church needed a long hillside cleaned of the underbrush and small trees that would have took members of the church an extremely long time to accomplish. So we woke up at seven in the morning and made the most of it as we ran out there rather than driving there. It was around three or so miles unless you were Grayson Stone who took a wrong turn and Jake Moore who went to go get him! This service project was setup by the coaches for a couple reasons. One was we wanted to make sure our guys know there are bigger and better causes in life then one might think and giving back to a community that gives great support to the college and to the wrestling team is really important. Secondly that a little bit of help goes a long ways and although they only spent half a Saturday working that time translated into what would have been several long hard weekends for members of the community. Last, but still important make a difference not only on campus, in Crawfordsville, but everywhere you go!
That was a great experience for our team to work together to accomplish a task and develop the necessary teamwork tools that will transpire into a great year for the Little Giants. These guys knew they were doing a good thing as they got right to work no questions asked. Realizing that with the hard work of many made for a faster day these guys tackled the hill. Some of the guys had hacksaws, others loppers and a few guys just picked up and unloaded. If this service project was any indicator of how these guys are going to work as a team this year in the wrestling room then we are in for a lot of fun. We made it through the day unscathed, unless you were Rob Arnett who got in the way of Andrew Kepchar that left Arnett with a band aid on his face. Overall we were out there for about four hours and when it was all said and done we had the hillside cleaned up and looking good. The church provided a great lunch for us as they had pulled pork sandwiches, potatoes, green beans, cookies, and lemonade to drink. That was all topped off with apple crisp and ice cream which filled everyone up. I cannot say enough about how well the day went and how the coaching staff was impressed with our wrestler’s attitudes and work ethic! The following day was also neat as Pastor Thomas gave his sermon in a Wabash Wrestling shirt showing his support for us.

For the record, I didn't get lost. I simply wanted to see more of the beautiful city of Crawfordsville, as I am not a native to the area. Plus, I wanted an extra hard workout. Ok...... I really did get lost... :(

Coach Anderson:
Thanks you very much for bringing the wrestling team out to church, even the ones who got "lost" -- to clean up our hillside. Everybody was amazed that the whole hillside got cleaned up in a single day. Awesome!
And good luck, guys, with your wrestling season. Hope to see you a couple of times this year.
Blessings,
Tony Thomas
