Where to go from here?
That's the dilemma that I'm faced with as I sit here wondering what I'm going to write about from here on out. It's one that I faced last year immediately following the season, but I could always complain about getting up for 6 a.m.'s, or how I was sore from spring practice. Not anymore. So what am I going to complain about from here on out? The McDonald's rant from a couple weeks back was a good place to start. Speaking of which, everyone who I've spoken to about that blog told me that I was not in the wrong for expecting to be served breakfast if I was in the restaurant by 10:28. I've been expecting a handwritten apology (coupled with breakfast coupons) from the McDonald's CEO for a week now, but for some reason it hasn't materialized.
And something that I normally complain about is the fact that all these "holidays" that other schools reap the benefit of (Labor Day, President's Day, MLK Day, etc), we are stuck in class. Well, you won't hear me complain this week, because most schools don't get a week off at Thanksgiving; we do. Which is one of the main perks of going to Wabash. Now, the past two years, I haven't been able to fully enjoy a week off of school, because we've been in the playoffs and have had to play football all week. But this past week, and even though I would have rather been playing football, I truly enjoyed every second that I could spend away from school, and with my family. I said a couple weeks ago prior to the Bell Game that I would be embarrassed to be home over Thanksgiving break, and having to listen to the questions from people in my town, "Why aren't you still playing football?" Well thankfully, I didn't run across anyone who had the mind to ask me that, so it didn't bother me as much. And as I mentioned in my blog last week, I don't have any regrets about the way things ended, so it was hard not to enjoy my week off.
But I'm back now, and the next couple of weeks are not going to be easy. Three papers to write/finish up, two presentations due next week, and a physics video to make. All in all, it will be a pretty busy two weeks, but I only have one final that I know of, so it's hard to complain too much. One thing that I'm really looking forward to over the course of the next two weeks is seeing our basketball team in action. They haven't played a home game yet, and won't until next Tuesday. But next weekend, they play DePauw at home, and that is a game that I absolutely cannot wait to attend. I'm seriously hoping that they'll let us get the bell down to have in the gym during the game. It's something that we definitely don't take for granted anymore, and I want to hear it every second I possibly can. That's one thing that has amazed me since we got the Bell back. My freshman year, we had won it the previous year, so I'm not sure I fully comprehended what it meant to this campus. The following week, I don't remember hearing the bell that often, and it likely just went up to its resting place in the Allen Center. The week after we won it this year though, I didn't hear it stop ringing. It was on the front porches of every fraternity on campus, and never seemed to stop ringing throughout the course of the week. And never once did I get tired of hearing it.
Okay, since I haven't really given my NFL thoughts in a while, it definitely seems like it's time. 1) How can you ever doubt the Colts? Seriously, did anyone really believe that when they went into halftime down 13 and getting the ball in the second half, that they were going to lose? It's as simple as this: Winning culture vs. Losing culture. Winners find ways to win. Losers find ways to lose. 2) I think the Vikings are the best team in the NFL right now. If it weren't for a fluky loss at Pittsburgh, this would be the team everyone was picking to run the table. 3) I think if I were a Pittsburgh fan, I wouldn't be panicked just yet. Big Ben will be back next week, they will win at least 4 of 5, and will be a very dangerous wild card team at 10-6. 4) I have never seen someone completely rebuild their career in a span of 5 weeks like Vince Young has done. Unreal. But that's what he did at Texas. Just win, baby. 5) Why does San Diego peak at the right time every year? 6) The Giants are toast.
Okay, time to get out of here. Hope everyone has an awesome week, only 3 more until another long break. In having only 15 days until home... I'm out.
