Readin', writin', and sleepin'
If you’re reading this, I haven’t succumbed to swine flu. Yet.So maybe that’s an exaggeration. But with all the cases emerging on campuses, and a few in FIJI, I can’t help but wash my hands a lot. So maybe the swine is a blessing in disguise!
This weekend is Halloween. All the FIJI pledges dress up, traditionally as superheroes, and hand out candy. It’ll be the first time I’ve dressed up in a couple of years. Plus, we have to/get to decorate the house! It’s about time something exciting happened here. We haven’t had a home football game (except during fall break) in a month. We won’t be having one this week, either.
I’m getting into the hang of reading entire books then writing a paper on them. For East and West: The Making of a Rift in the Church, I read 275 pages, marked what I thought might be important points, jotted an outline, got more citations, and typed my draft today. This leaves me a week to edit it twice, plus submit it to a brother to read over. One lesson I learned from reading a book on a subject I had no prior knowledge on: Know your material before you read about it! If I was familiar with the schism between the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches, I would’ve known to heed the particular councils and mark when they were described. Instead, I’ll have to go back and find the information in East and West. What a pain.
This week I’ve been “experimenting” by going to bed at a modest hour (12:30) and waking up much earlier to do homework (6:30). I’ll see whether I perform better in the morning than at 1:30 at night. Plus, I’m pretty sure this new schedule is better for me physically.
Stay tuned.
