Getting Close

It is December 1st.  Unbelievable!  The Holidays are coming quickly and before we know it, it will be the start of the 2007 Tennis Season.  The guys are working hard preparing for a competitive year.  Our final goals have not been set, but I know that my personal goal is to finish in the top half of the conference and beat the school record for most team wins in a season.  We finished 7th last year in conference and I am sure with all of my experienced seniors, we will be able to overcome those close losses that we had last year and finish higher than ever before.

On another great note, my #1 doubles team of Adam Van Zee('07) and Jay Horrey('09) received a #10 ranking in the Central Region.  It is quite an honor for Wabash and I know it will propel them into a fantastic season.  Their ranking came after an excellent finish at the Fall ITA Regional Tournament in St. Louis.  Along the way they beat the #2 seed from Washington University in St. Louis and made it to the Quarterfinals.

On the recruiting scene, I have had a number of highly ranked players from the midwest come and visit and have shown a high interest in our program.  Next year could be the year of years.  I have also been talking to kids from California, Florida, Virginia, Missouri, and North Carolina.  I am looking forward to having a huge freshman class next year.

As I stated earlier, practice begins January 10 and our first match is February 3.  This gives us just over 3 weeks to get prepared, have line-ups set, and be in match shape.  We are all excited and hope that anyone that is around campus will come and support the "Little Giant" Tennis Team.

Have a great Holiday Season!

Wabash Tennis Always Fights,

Coach Hutchison
