« Hard Work and Fundamentals Drive Little Giants into Week 3 of Official Practice | Main | Assistant Coach Ryan Flynn »

Assistant Coach Jared Bogan '06

Last April the Wabash College baseball season came to a close at Victory field in Indianapolis. Being a senior on the squad, I thought those final outs would be the last time I would have the opportunity to proudly sport the Wabash “W” on the diamond. What a difference a year makes! Today, I am fortunate enough to say that I still am part of something special: Wabash Baseball, Building a Tradition.

Instead of lacing up the spikes, this year I am trying the coaching shoes on for size as the assistant coach for the Little Giants. I am sure that there are many former players that would have loved the opportunity to stay on hand and help the team continue on its path towards a conference championship. As the opening pitch draws nearer and nearer, I face the many challenges that first year coaches encounter, but I am confident that those who have prepared me for this transition have instilled their “Deserve to Win” attitude in me and my coaching abilities. I am forever in debt to coaches like Tom Flynn, former Wabash College head coach whom I had the privilege of playing for, and Cory Stevens, the man at the helm of the Little Giants this year. Along with those two great coaches, Bill Cammack, my high school baseball coach, has also been an important influence. Together, those three men have shown me how not only to be a great coach, but also how to be an outstanding brother, son, family man, and gentleman.

I am sure that this season will have its ups and downs as I watch from the bench for the first time in my life, but I have witnessed the hard work of the young men who will button the jerseys and run onto Mud Hollow…and they have already proven they deserve to win. I cannot express my excitement for this season. I do not know how I will feel not being able to make the play to save a run or get the double to tie the game, but I do know that WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS!
