Joey Niezer '09 Named NCAC Pitcher of the Week
Sophomore right-hander Joey Niezer '09 (Batesville, IN/Oldenburg Academy) was named North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the week on April 16th. He went 2-0 on the week, scattering four hits in 16 innings of work. He picked up a 10-7 win against North Park University at the Steel Yard in Gary, tying a career-high with seven strikeouts. Joey gave up two hits and one earned run against the Vikings. He then went the distance against previously undefeated College of Wooster, lifting the Little Giants past the Fighting Scots, 3-2. The victory against the #1 team in the nation snapped the Scots' 27-game winning streak, the longest in the nation and longest in Wooster school history. Niezer allowed two hits in nine innings - giving up an infield hit in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the seventh. He struck out five, giving him 12 K's for the week. Joey also had four assists in the field, including throwing out a runner at the plate in the fourth inning to hold a two-run lead. On the week, he allowed four hits (one earned).
