Assistant Coach Nick Marsh
The Wabash Little Giants have begun indoor baseball practice. The players and coaches have adjusted to the morning practice schedule and a great deal of work has been done toward our preseason goal of becoming as ready as possible for the ‘08 season. There are still things that need to be done before that time, but I am confident that we will meet our goals.
As the newest member of the coaching staff I have been learning the ropes and traditions of this fine academic institution and storied athletic program. In the past Wabash was not unknown to me. Previous head coach Tom Flynn Jr. is the older brother of my life long friend, and now assistant coach Ryan Flynn. I had also heard of Wabash from several players from previous years who came from my hometown of Youngstown, OH.
While living in Youngstown I attended Cardinal Mooney High School, where I played baseball under the tutelage of Tom Flynn Sr. and with the help of Ryan Flynn’s bat in the lineup and glove at first base. After high school I earned an athletic scholarship to play baseball and basketball at Urbana University. I was able to play all four years of my eligibility even though repeated shoulder injuries shortened my career after college.
I began my coaching career as head junior varsity coach at Liberty High School in 2006. In 2007 I was promoted to varsity pitching coach. Just a few short weeks ago the assistant position at Wabash opened up and I jumped at the opportunity to coach with Ryan Flynn and Cory Stevens at a school I respected so much.
I consider myself lucky to get to show up for work every day with such a fine group of young men, who are all willing to work hard. The’ 08 Little Giants are capable of great things and I know that with the dedication I have seen so far from the team there is no reason why our team goals should not be met.
