Casino Night and Football
I think this weekend was a good refresher from last week. I had a couple of major tests to study for, but I was able to keep my head up, have a good laugh, and look forward to things once again.
On Saturday afternoon, we had our trio-swim-meet with Rose-Hulman, IWU, and St. Mary's. I thought it was really healthy for the team to get to race and compete again. I was so grateful for all the support the team received from those on campus, even when the swim meet was during a home football game. The St. Mary’s girls wore red ribbons on their suits while the guys on Wabash swam with black ribbons on their arms in permanent marker.
Later that evening, Chadwick court held Wabash’s first ‘Casino Night’ for all students and guests. Though many students have complained about the money that went into this event, I thought it was a rather good idea. There was a lot that could have been improved, but for a first, it had some potential to it. Just to make things clear, students weren’t gambling with money. We were each given a raffle ticket and then a raffle ticket’s worth in chips to gamble with. The more chips we’d win the better chances we had in the raffle. I didn’t win anything. I actually lost a ton of my chips (I’m a horrible gambler), but I think I enjoyed being around the excitement with so many other students. Yes, it was a bit silly (many guys dressed in sports coats like they really were in Vegas), but I was just pleased to see people enjoying themselves. Soon after ‘Casino Night’ ended, a few good friends and I then went to grab something to eat. What did anyone ever do late at night before Crawfordsville built an S n’ S?
Sunday then followed with studying and football. Unfortunately, I’ll have to listen to the whining and moaning of most Colts fans. Don’t get me wrong, as I’m big fan as well, but I'm always amazed at how psyched some people get for football… never mind that. I just remembered it’s Bell Week! (and yes, I ironically did just hear the bell ring.)
