Action Jackson speaks!
Hugh Jackson '09 -- The 2008 Cross team spent roughly 24 hours together during the weekend of Aug.8-9th in Flat Rock, Indiana to help set-up and take part in the Jeremy Wright Memorial 5k.
While the duration of the trip was not long I feel that there were three facts that were blatantly apparent about this year’s team. The first is that there are tons of freshmen. The recruiting wagon was in full swing last year and as a result there are more guys coming in than I know names right now. Next is that there is some success on the horizon for this year's team. I know this because the 5k we ran on the morning of the 9th showed that many of our returning guys and freshmen are fit coming into the season. Our returning guys are looking good and several freshmen were not afraid to run with upperclassmen resulting in a solid group of freshmen under 16:40. I can’t exactly say where we will fall in an 8k at this point but we have untold potential and time to bring that to fruition.
The third and final fact of our pre-season is that Micah Milliman and Coach Busch are unstoppable in hillbilly golf. After winning 13 games in a row everyone else gave up trying to compete. The trip to remember a former Little Giant harrier was a success and truly enjoyable. The team is looking forward to getting to campus and getting race ready for 8k. I am even more excited to see how our roughly seventeen freshmen react to the longer distance as the season progresses. Many have displayed that they are already somewhat in shape and not afraid to race hard.
Alumni have been warned.
