Surface in New York City...
Jacob Surface '11 -- Summer Training Mix, volume 1
I am spending the next eight weeks away from my beloved sunny Smartsburg interning in the Big Apple. Last week wasn’t too bad. I lived with teammate Brian David ’12 in New Jersey and we spent our first full week of summer training getting our mileage back on track and hitting up the megamalls (there is one every half mile!). Unfortunately, Brian took a spill on a narrow New Jersey sidewalk and skinned up his hip. He took the next day off which allowed me to practice trail running on a nearby BMX path. It was nice getting off of the pavement, something that I appreciate now that I have moved into my NYU dorm in Greenwich Village. It is a very funky part of the city, but grass is still hard to come by and the old shins are feeling a bit tender after today’s eight mile run. I am beginning to appreciate and miss the company of the Redpack. I know that if I get too down, Brian can hop a bus and we can do 10 miles at Central Park. Maybe next weekend, until then, stay classy Wabash.
