Break is finally here

So thanksgiving break is finally here; sweet relief. After packing up this morning I headed out to the airport. When I arrived at my gate you will never guess who I saw…LARRY BIRD! Damn that guy is tall. I wanted to get a picture but someone else beat me too it and Larry seemed annoyed by it. So I snuck around him and tried to get a side photo. Would have worked perfectly, but some lady’s head got in the way at the last second, so all I got a picture of half of his head and his jacket.
All that aside I’m really looking forward to going home. It’s been around four months since I’ve seen my family and I can’t wait to give them all a hug. It is definitely going to be a nice break, I don’t know if I’ll catch up on any sleep. I do know that it will be a fun break though.
Well my flight boards in a few, whoever still reads this you have better taste than most. Haha
Have a good weekend everybody :)

Busy week

So it’s been awhile since I posted something and I guess I have a lot to tell ya’ll. I’ll start with the bell game. That in itself was an amazing experience and hearing the bell ringing across campus for the first time is awesome. I can’t wait to see the bell up in the Allen Center where it belongs.
So for those of you who don’t know thanksgiving break starts Friday afternoon, and to be honest it couldn’t get here fast enough J hard to believe that it’s been since early August that I’ve seen anyone from my family. It will be nice to go home.
But believe it or not outside of the demanding grind of sports, clubs and studies Wabash is actually a cool place to be. For example today I had lunch with Tim Padgett 84’, who is the Miami and Caribbean bureau chief for Time Magazine. He talked to us about what it’s like to be a journalist today and all the challenges that they face in a world dominated by the internet.
I’m a regular reader of time magazine and to see one of the writers who has his stories in the magazine was a really cool experience. Anyway, since it is the week before break professors, by some unwritten rule slammed us with homework making time crawl at a snail’s pace. This week has been long but hey, I only have one more day…then it’s off to the far away land of California.

two in one day? who does that?

This is my second entry in one day…I’m a boss. With pre-registration coming up next week at Wabash I thought I would let all the prospects know what a typical daily schedule is like academically.
                Monday-Wednesday-Friday                                       Tuesday-Thursday
                                8:00am Physics 111                                 9:45am Freshman Tutorial
                                9:00am Spanish 201                               1:10pm Physics 111 Lab(Tuesdays)
                                10:20am English Comp
                                3:10pm Spanish Lab (Fridays)

That is my schedule for this semester. Now if I get all the classes I want my schedule for next semester will look a little something like this:

                Monday-Wednesday-Friday                                                       Tuesday-Thursday
                                9:00am Math 178                                                        1:10pm Philosophy 219
                                10:20am English 216
                                11:20am English 202
                                1:10pm Rhetoric 101

For all of you wanting to know, four classes is the norm at Wabash, five is challenging yourself and six is borderline insane. So to all the prospects out there this is a little sample of what your schedule could be like next year should you accept the “Wabash challenge”.

Its almost here

The Monon Bell Game is almost here. The campus is pretty crazy right now with all the excitement and expectations of the game. Yesterday at Chapel, the four team captains and the head football coach gave a motivational speech for tomorrows Bell Game. It’s been the coolest thing about bell week so far. one thing that was a mystery to me is why the bell game matters so much. The Chapel talk yesterday opened my eyes to that one. Those speeches got me so pumped; I wished I was still playing football so I could have a more intimate role in this game. In my opinion the best speech was Matt Hudson’s (go figure though the guy is a rhetoric major)
Then of course what would bell week be without the midnight cookouts. Sure its cold as hell and when I leave I can barely feel my fingers, but I like the break from studying and the food is pretty, pretty good.  Now one thing is for certain and that is the fact that you don’t get a lot of sleep during Bell Week. So here is to unnecessary late nights writing papers while watching fresh prince of bel air with my roommates. Tiring? Yes. Worth it? Hey man we got the work done.
As expected tomorrows Bell game will be absolutely crazy and I can’t wait to go down to DePauw and watch our little giants take back the bell.
DEPAUW TO HELL WIN THE BELL!

Bell Week

Its Bell Week baby, the freshman guard the campus, the sphinx club holds midnight cookouts, and Mohawks with mustaches are in abundance. Since it’s my first bell week I’m just trying to soak everything in and not miss a thing. So far I’ve had a lot thrown on my plate. On Monday, I injured myself at wrestling practice (torn cartilage in my ribs in the diagnosis). Then I conducted an interview for the “Bell Week issue” of the Bachelor, followed by a massive study session for a physics test.
And today after class I went to an MXI writing workshop, then my physics lab. And tonight I got to watch the wrestling team defeat Camulet College. So as you can see bell week means there is a lot going on, so prioritize accordingly. One thing that I’m really looking forward to is guarding the campus, the independents and the Sigma Chi pledges will guard the campus tomorrow night. So expect me to be tweeting about that. As I continue to immerse myself in the tradition of Wabash College I can’t help but feel excited. It’s my first bell week and I have a feeling our football team will bring fame…to her honored name.

there are not enough hours in a day...

As I’m writing this blog I’m preparing to go to my last class of the day, and I’ll get read y to speak to some parents and alumni for top ten scholarship day. Then I’ll be heading to practice and shortly thereafter I’ll be heading on a bus to Wisconsin for a wrestling tournament tomorrow…busy day ahead of me.

In other news the wrestling team made the front page of the Bachelor in the sports section today, cool stuff huh? Should be good exposure to all the prospect students who are on campus today.   Sorry this blog was short but I have to get to class and then run through that giant check list above…and pack, crap I forgot to pack up all my clothes.
You can see that you need good time management skills here otherwise you go crazy.
Until next time stay, classy Wabash.

keeping my nose to the grind stone

Things have been so busy lately. It’s crazy how much stuff can get packed into twenty-four hours. It really amazes me.  Anyway, I have my first wrestling tournament coming up this Saturday in Wisconsin, and I’m kinda excited about it. I’m missing X-tacy (which is the Malcolm X Institutes big party during the first semester), but you have to make sacrifices if you want to be a college athlete.
All in all it will be another busy weekend, but this time I’ll be spending a majority of it on a bus. But before I do that I get to talk to some more families about Wabash, since its Top ten scholarship visit day. So be on the lookout for me because I will probably be talking with you or your parents over lunch on Friday. Until then have a great week and stay healthy.
